Program description
This certificate program that focuses on building and developing in participating students the foundational knowledge and skills they will need to enter the criminal justice profession as well as the opportunities to build future pathways for various advanced roles in the profession. While centered in the discipline of Criminal Justice, the program's interdisciplinary curriculum draws from and incorporates several over key disciplines that are critical to building knowledge and competency for future careers in law enforcement and other criminal justice positions.
Program Outcomes:
- Articulate key structures and components of the American criminal justice system.
- Possess the skills to serve effectively across diverse communities.
- Write a comprehensive report that has accurately detailed and analyzed complex incidents.
- Select words and phrases that present to another person situational facts and circumstances without subjectivity or bias.
- Discern and distinguish between important facts and insignificant data in decision making.
- Identify and evaluate courses of action to solve and address criminal justice-related complex situations within the community.
- Effectively apply strategies for ethical decision-making and identify unethical behaviors.
- Build effective reflection skills to respond appropriately when presented with a difficult situation or problem not seen before.
- Draw appropriately from a toolbox of strategies for de-escalating tense situations.
- Effectively navigate and negotiate shared work when conducting teamwork with individuals with diverse strengths and working styles.
