Health Services Executive Certificate

Academic Affairs (CCAA) 28UGR Univ of Minnesota, Crookston 5P6 - Health Services Executive Certificate

Program description

The Health Services Executive Certificate program prepares individuals for the regulatory and business principles of nursing homes, residential care, assisted living facilities, home and community-based services, and other long-term care services and supports. The certificate content consists of courses required for the state of Minnesota licensure. The certificate courses reside within the Health Management program, accredited by the Minnesota Board of Executives for Long Term Services and Supports (BELTSS). Every state requires nursing home administrators to be licensed. Because licensing requirements vary from state to state, you should understand the requirements for the state in which you are obtaining a license. Minnesota and most other states require candidates to have at least a Bachelor's degree, prior to or during the completion of the required certificate courses. Once licensed, individuals are qualified to lead organizations in the field of long-term care (LTC) services and supports.

As part of the online coursework, students will be required to complete a 1,000-hour internship, or practicum, for experiential learning and aspects of regulatory and leadership education not always or consistently included in the courses. The internship will occur in the areas of a skilled nursing home, residential care, assisted living, and home and community-based services, which provide LTC services and supports. A faculty member must approve the internship site and the necessary paperwork completed prior to commencing the internship.

Application to the certificate program is required along with completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning as demonstrated by a transcript or in tandem with the completion of a degree from the University of Minnesota schools with a minimum 2.8 GPA. Candidates with coursework completed within a maximum of a four-year/twelve-semester timeframe. A Bachelor or Master's degree obtained greater than seven years requires evidence of continued competency such as work experience or continuing education.
